Here's where many people tie themselves in knots unnecessarily. Must your console table match everything else perfectly? Absolutely not, darling.

Scandinavian interiors thrive on subtle variations within a cohesive palette. Your console table should feel like it belongs - rather like a family member who shares the same DNA but has their own distinct personality.

I often place consoles in that awkward space beneath staircases or in wide corridors where they can provide both storage and visual interest without impeding movement.

Against blank walls, consoles create wonderful opportunities for styling. The wall above becomes a canvas for artwork, mirrors, or floating shelves, but remember the Scandinavian principle of restraint. One well-chosen piece often works better than a gallery wall.

Consider sight lines from your main seating areas. Your console should look intentional from every angle - not like an afterthought pushed against a wall. If you can see it from your favourite armchair, it should present a pleasing composition that enhances rather than distracts from your relaxation.
